Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration that recognises volunteers and everything you do to support the work of charities and community groups around the country.
From 1-7 June, organisations throughout the UK will be going all out to shout about the impact their volunteers make. We believe our volunteers are the best of the best, and we intend to make sure everyone knows it!
London Metropolitan Flag Day allows the MS Society to hold charitable collections (in aid of the MS Society) across London for one day only during daylight hours (so long as they're within the areas covered by London Metropolitan Police).
This event can be an excellent source of funding for your group, so now's the time to get a team together to help you collect.
Traditionally, clinical trials for MS haven't included people who depend on a wheelchair to get around. But this is changing.
ChariotMS is a phase 2 trial testing whether cladribine can help people with more advanced MS maintain the use of their arms and hands. Cladribine (brand name Mavenclad) is already licensed for highly active relapsing MS.
We want to ensure that the support we’re providing to our groups is as effective, timely and as accessible as possible. So local groups can, in turn, support their local MS communities. To help us do this, and to better understand and agree our priority areas of work, we’ve formed a panel of volunteers and staff, called the Community Networks Advisory Panel (CNAP).
We have six MS Walks this year - in Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Belfast, London and Glasgow. With 1, 5, and 10km routes to choose from (and even a 20km in London), there’s something for everyone. Explore a mixture of riversides, parks, hidden alleys and historic buildings while raising life-changing funds.
Gary Rushworth is no stranger to long walks, having done many over the years to raise money for causes which have touched his life. But the journey he’s about to embark on to raise awareness of MS will be his greatest challenge yet – and the one closest to his heart.
Gary (64) will be walking the length and breadth of Great Britain in memory and celebration of his late wife, Moira.
If you’re a Support Volunteer you’ll have access to three mailboxes; your personal MS Society mailbox, your group mailbox and the support mailbox. These can all be accessed via your MS Society Office 365.
The support mailbox has been set up to ensure any personal details of the people you’re communicating with are kept confidential. Only Support Volunteers have access to MS Society support mailboxes.
For a group to submit a Gift Aid claim, they must hold a valid charity number. Unfortunately, HMRC no longer accept our groups registering for their own charity numbers. If your group registered before January 2019, you can continue to submit Gift Aid claims – but this may change in the future.
At the end of February, we launched a new GDPR eLearning called Keeping Data Safe. Since then, we’ve been sending the eLearning out to the first group of volunteers in certain roles who need to complete it. We’ve had a great response so far, so thanks to those of you who have already completed it.
